We are seeking a seasoned Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to lead our Agile delivery team in supporting the United States Patent Organization CPC team for the IPOCT and CLASS-DB projects. As a Senior DBA, your primary responsibility will be to lead efforts in supporting the migration of the backend Java solution, currently running on a JBoss application server, to a microservices architecture in the cloud. You will play a crucial role in the successful transition of the Oracle on-premises database to an AWS Aurora PostgreSQL RDS database, all within an Agile delivery framework.
Responsibilities:
  1. Backend Java Solution Support:
    • Lead and drive the support for the migration of the backend Java solution, currently running on a JBoss application server, to a microservices architecture in the cloud for the United States Patent Organization CPC team.
    • Collaborate closely with the CPC team to ensure a seamless integration between the database and microservices, optimizing performance and scalability.
  2. Migration Planning:
    • Collaborate with stakeholders in the United States Patent Organization to assess the existing Oracle on-premises database and design a comprehensive migration plan to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL RDS for the IPOCT and CLASS-DB projects.
    • Evaluate data structures, dependencies, and performance considerations for a smooth transition.
    • Coordinate with the CPC team to align the database migration plan with the overall Agile delivery framework.
  3. Database Migration Execution:
    • Lead the execution of the migration plan, including schema conversion, data migration, and performance tuning.
    • Utilize Liquibase or Flyway for database version control and manage database schema changes during the migration process.
    • Leverage AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) for efficient and streamlined migration workflows.
    • Monitor and troubleshoot migration-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
  4. AWS Aurora PostgreSQL RDS Management:
    • Configure and optimize AWS Aurora PostgreSQL RDS settings for performance, scalability, and security for the IPOCT and CLASS-DB projects.
    • Implement backup and recovery strategies and ensure data consistency.
  5. Collaboration and Communication in an Agile Context:
    • Work closely with the United States Patent Organization CPC team, including developers, system administrators, and project managers, within the Agile delivery framework to coordinate migration activities and address challenges.
    • Provide clear and concise documentation for all migration processes and configurations, following Agile principles.
  6. Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
    • Establish proactive monitoring systems to track database performance and identify areas for optimization.
    • Optimize SQL queries and database configurations to enhance overall system performance.
  7. Security and Compliance:
    • Implement and enforce security best practices for the AWS Aurora PostgreSQL RDS environment for the IPOCT and CLASS-DB projects.
    • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and organization policies.
  8. Training and Knowledge Transfer:
    • Conduct training sessions for the United States Patent Organization CPC team within the Agile framework to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing support for the new database environment.
    • Facilitate knowledge transfer sessions to empower the CPC team with the necessary skills for managing the AWS Aurora PostgreSQL RDS database.
Qualifications:
  • Extensive hands-on experience with PL/SQL
  • Proven experience as a Senior Database Administrator with expertise in Oracle databases.
  • Hands-on experience in migrating Oracle databases to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL RDS.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and database performance tuning.
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS services, particularly Aurora PostgreSQL RDS.
  • Experience with Liquibase or Flyway for database version control and schema management.
  • Bonus experience with AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
  • Leadership experience in supporting backend Java solutions transitioning to microservices in the cloud.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile team-oriented environment.
If you are a seasoned DBA with proven leadership in supporting backend Java solutions and leading successful database migrations, especially in the context of Agile projects for the United States Patent Organization CPC team, we encourage you to apply and be a key leader in our exciting journey to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL RDS.
