Position Description

The Senior Cloud Engineer will play a critical role in the implementation and maintenance of the USPTO's cloud-based Patent CMS and related systems. This position will be responsible for designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency. The role will also involve collaboration with other teams to integrate cloud solutions with on-premise systems like S-DWP and components such as Event Hub and P-OA2XML.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure solutions within AWS.
Collaborate with software development teams to deploy applications and services in the cloud.
Optimize cloud environments for performance, cost, and scalability.
Implement security best practices to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of data stored in the cloud.
Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline deployment and management tasks.
Monitor cloud infrastructure for performance and reliability issues and implement solutions to address them.
Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in cloud computing and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

Requirements

Expertise in AWS services, such as IAM, giRDS, Secrets Manager, VPC, ElastiCache, Data Sync, Route 53, ALB, SQS, SNS and Cloudwatch.
Proficiency in infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform / Terragrunt.
Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes and AWS ECS.
Familiarity with DevOps practices and GitLab for CI/CD pipelines.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
